The Home Economics Education Course in the Secondary Education Major strives to enable students to acquire specialized knowledge and techniques related to home economics education and to cultivate junior and senior high school teachers who can conduct practical education activities in school. We strive to develop students' problem-solving skills that enable them to adapt to the various life challenges they will face by promoting an understanding of approaches, methods, and the contents of home economics education utilizing the latest specialized knowledge.

Prospective Students

• Individuals who have adequately acquired fundamental knowledge and skills in subjects they took in high school.
• Individuals who are good at home economics and have a strong ambition to acquire the practical educational skills needed to be a junior or senior high school home economics teacher.
• Individuals who have a strong desire to work in the teaching profession, and who can maintain the interest in their field.
• Individuals who have a sense of mission and passion to be involved in the growth of children.
• Individuals interested in acquiring skills to communicate with people of diverse ages.
• Individuals familiar with or interested in schools, life, and education based on their own school experience.

The Home Economics Education Course features classes in six fields closely related to people's lives: Clothing, Food, Housing, Child Care, Lifestyle Management, and Home Economics Education. In addition, we offer a variety of classes, Lifestyle Survey Research Methods for required knowledge related to survey research, and Theories of Lifestyle Devices required to obtain a high school teaching certificate.

In each field, we offer many experiential classes, such as Clothing Science Experimentation, Food Science Experimentation, Housing Science Seminar, Child Care Studies Seminar, Lifestyle Management Seminar, and Home Economics Education Seminar. These classes cultivate practical educational skills.

In the Home Economics Education Course, students are assigned to a laboratory (seminar) in their junior year and learn specialized knowledge in each field. In their senior year, they receive guidance from their supervisor and write their bachelor's thesis. A key feature of the Home Economics Education Course is that students can study broadly in many different fields because the specialized fields of our faculty members cover such a wide range of disciplines.
