Art and people: creating the future through art and calligraphy education

The Art and Calligraphy Education Course strives to provide an education that cultivates the ability to interact with others, expand their worlds, and improve learning abilities through art and calligraphy. We place priority on creating connections among students of different ages by offering seminar camps and training excursions.
Through practicums and lectures, students acquire fundamental knowledge and skills, then learn specialized knowledge and the contents and teaching methods for arts and crafts, art, and calligraphy. When preparing their senior projects, students are divided into specialized seminars, and present the results of their four years of work at an exhibition.

Educational Goals 1

From the fundamentals of art and calligraphy to practical education, production, and research

This course is structured to enable students to study independently, interact with others, and improve their various skills. In their freshman year, students will learn the very basics of formative art, art history, and the fundamentals of calligraphy. In their sophomore year, they will take subject specialization classes such as Teaching Methods, and major classes such as Fundamentals of Formative Art, Art Theory, Calligraphy Theory, and The History of Calligraphy. Students will also conduct a study on teaching materials. In their junior year, students will be assigned to a seminar where they will explore advanced topics and will decide the topic of their senior research. In their senior year, they will work on their senior research, focusing on their chosen theme.

Getting close to students and enhancing their sensibilities

Our uniquely experienced faculty members provide support to facilitate research in accordance with the motto of ¡°Getting close to students and enhancing their sensibilities.¡± The Art and Calligraphy Education Course strives to provide an education that cultivates the ability to learn by interacting with others and expanding their worlds through art and calligraphy. We emphasize communication and encourage dynamic interactions between students at different grade levels. We actively support student research presentations, facilitate practical training in school settings, and promote community and international interactions.

Educational Goals 3

Four years of accumulated teaching practicum experience

To acquire practical teaching skills, students accumulate teaching practicum experience over their four years of university study, from an observation-based practicum (compulsory for freshmen) to experiential practicums (elective for sophomores), their basic teaching practicum (compulsory for juniors), and advanced practicums (elective for seniors). Furthermore, using an electronic portfolio, periodic interviews are conducted with supervisors from the time students enroll in the university until their graduation, and provide support to ensure that they are having a rewarding student experience.
