JICA training project “Examining the Educational Reform in Teacher Training Process (in French-Speaking African Region)”

From November 22 to December 17, 2010, a group training was conducted through 2010 JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) training project “Examining the Educational Reform in Teacher Training Process (French-Speaking African Region).”
This project has been implemented as a part of international contribution, in order to review the policies to improve the teacher training process aiming at upgrading the quality of elementary education. A group of ten educators, including in-service teachers from French-speaking African regions (Benin, Burkina Faso, Rwanda and Senegal) visited Japan as trainees.
In this training, in addition to receiving lectures and observing classrooms, the group visited elementary schools, board of education, education centers, CALL-JSL, etc., in order to understand the reality of Japanese elementary education. Especially at Hiroshima Peace Memoriam Museum, they attended a lecture of atomic bomb victim memoirs, providing an opportunity for them to deeply consider peace education. Based on these training sessions, the trainees presented action plans that they made for their own countries.
At the closing ceremony, the representative of the training delegate summarized the impression of their training and determination about the future, and thanked the university and JICA.
